Motorsport and Education
It was good to attend the recent MIA event at Silverstone UTC together with representatives from Universities, Colleges, Teams, Suppliers and Service Providers. A lot of positive thought and discussion about making stronger links between Education and Motorsport at all levels. Also, some good Case Studies illustrating how progressing from studying into the start of a career in the sector, can work well.
More still to be done on:
Understanding what the Motorsport sector wants from Schools, Colleges and Universities, particularly with regard to current and future skills shortages and how these match with course content .
Managing the expectations of young people leaving Education with regard to the reality of finding the right job within Motorsport.
Considering how to use some of the skills/knowledge gained by Motorsport Students in other areas where there are severe shortages of Engineering talent.
